Brief description of Department:
Torbay Sexual Medicine Service (tSMS) is based at Castle Circus Health Centre and encompasses Contraception, GU medicine, Chlamydia Screening, Torbay Pregnancy Advisory service (TOPAS) and Sexual Health Outreach.
The service has in excess of 10 000 attendances per year with patients ranging in age from 0-99 years. Patients may self-refer or be referred from other clinicians or social care workers. As such the service provides primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care. There are large interfaces with allied specialties such as gynaecology, public health, mental health, paediatrics (including safeguarding), urology, psychosexual medicine, general practice, forensics, dermatology and infectious diseases (HIV).

- Lots of joint clinics with doctors and nurses. Make sure you get to the nurse clinics so yo can see patients being started on contraception rather than consultations with problems with contraception only.
- Complete the DFSRH in this placement.
- Do e-learning for diploma before starting the placement to get max out of it.
